Round Bulkhead

Buta contacted us to assist with round bulkhead design and installation at Dadas Motors in Benoni as part of his new super car dealership project.

He already had a architectural designs of the round bulkheads with a modern upmarket aesthetical outcome in mind.

He desired to accentuate  the show room floor and waiting areas which had to give an atmosphere of sophistication whilst still creating a relaxing and conducive environment with the round bulkhead design to compliment these areas.

All walls, ceiling slabs and pillars was re-finished and either new wall paper applied, painted or mosaic installed. We had to work around existing fixtures and fitted the round bulkhead frame directly to the slab.

The final design was a round bulkhead with down lights, the drop from the ceiling to the bottom edge was carefully planned to fit in with the height and width of the show floor are and at certain areas done at staggered heights. Too little or too much of a drop is aesthetically displeasing.

The round bulkhead looks amazing and compliments the surrounding areas amazingly.

The choice of grey painted slabs  and industrial lighting works surprisingly well with these specific bulkheads. The perfect blend of modern and industrial….

The structure of the round bulkhead was created from galvanized main tees and cross tees as per supplier recommendation. Plastic corner sections and galvanized angle secured with wafer tech screws was used to achieve the required rounding.

It needs to be noted that accuracy when constructing the round bulkhead structure is of utmost importance. If the structure is poorly constructed the end product will be of poor visual quality. After the bulkhead structure was completed 9.5mm Gypsum board cladding was used and corners trimmed with plastic corner beads. Care needs to be taken that this done properly as a corner bead fitted a slight bit out of position will have a disastrous effect on the final aesthetic look.

After all of the above was completed two coats of Rhinolite was applied to the round bulkhead and skimmed to a smooth flawless finish. We then applied plaster primer and white acrylic paint.
